In Class #1

p.5 "However, instead of focusing on rules, we would like to begin by giving you a broader and deeper way to look at the writing you will do in your academic and professional life".
This statement is exactly how I like about writing. I feel like when rules are set it narrows the ability of a writer to write descriptively and persuasive. When there aren't rules a writer can freely write about all the ideas that come to mind instead of having to write within guidelines. I believe that when a writer is being restricted to writing with rules then the writer himself can not fully elaborate on a topic.

p. 41 "A strong thesis statement surprises readers with something new or challenging"
A effective way to get a reader interested in your writing is to develop a strong thesis statement. With a strong thesis statement the reader will ask questions and want to continue reading to learn more about the topic. If you can create a thesis statement that can hook the reader into reading your paper then it will benefit your writing.
